Bridge for Beginners at the Shirley Institute Solihull West Midlands has got off to a flying start. The eight week course sponsored by Arden B.C. has been so well received that another venue has been found for classes on Tuesdays throughout October and November at the Trinity United Reform Church Etwall Road Hall Green 7.15pm-9.15pm.The HQ of Shirley B.C.
Larry Sayer will be the tutor for both venues.

It is in the interest of all Bridge Clubs to encourage new players wherever possible for the future of this wonderful mind sport.

There have been many prominent psychiatrists advocating the playing of card games, especially Bridge to help to stave off the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. 

In September I went to South Wales  where  I received the usual warm welcome from the local clubs.  I am sorry that I will not be able to go to the Llanelli Bridge Club Christmas party.  It sounds as if we will be missing a good time.
When we arrived back in Birmingham we received news of the untimely death of Keith Brice. I send my condolences to his family.

We also went to Mumbles Bridge club to be warmly greeted by the Nichols yet again.

Once again the competition season has arrived.   South Warwickshire Bridge League fixtures lists are in transit and the phone lines will be busy soon as team captains struggle to assemble 8 people on a mutually agreed date at an arranged venue.   Good luck to all of them.  But it is very sad to see so many familiar names missing from the list, every year the number of entries diminishes. Very Sad.

I am off to Malta this month where a few visits to the clubs there are planned.  We have been several times and always enjoy the climate and the welcome we get at the clubs.  This time I am also going to spy out the land as several pokerbreaks are planned starting with one in November at the Oracle Casino, but more of that elsewhere.
